The days are getting shorter, the evenings cooler, and the outdoor courts are emptying. For pickleball, that's no reason to pause. Quite the opposite: pickleball is well suited to indoor play and can be played year-round, regardless of the weather. Many venues switch to winter operations at the end of September, so now is the time to secure your court.

Here are the main indoor options across Austria.

Vienna

Europahalle (1230 Vienna, Liesing). One of Austria's larger racket sports facilities, with 31 courts across seven sports and two pickleball hard courts. Bookable around the clock via the online system. Note: summer playing hours run until 27 September, after which winter hours apply with significantly longer evening slots. Several clubs also hold regular open-play sessions here.

Racketworld Ottakring (1160 Vienna, Kendlerstraße 47). Indoor pickleball with online booking. Fixed weekly slots and subscription hours are available for the 2026/27 winter season.

Padeldome Erdberg (1030 Vienna, Franzosengraben 2). One indoor pickleball court, 16 euros per hour, bookable online. Open Monday to Friday from 8am to 11pm, weekends and holidays from 8am to 10pm. Conveniently located right at the U3 Erdberg station with P+R garage access. Showers and rental paddles are available on site.

Lower Austria

Racket Revolution (Wiener Neustadt). Austria's first dedicated pickleball hall and one of the most modern facilities in the country. Open daily from 7am to midnight, booking online in minutes, entry via QR code. Alongside single sessions, block tickets and memberships are available. The 4th Austrian Championships were held here in April.

Other options in the region: Brokensticks and Padelzone / Arena 27.

Styria

Racket Sport Center Graz. Weekly pickleball meetup every Tuesday from 6pm to 9pm, 5 euros per person. Advance registration by email required.

Upper Austria

Union Ostermiething. The club offers several indoor courts and regular group play. In winter, play moves to the local primary school gym. It's a good example of how easily pickleball fits into existing halls.

Salzburg, Tyrol, Vorarlberg

In Salzburg, you can play at Sportzentrum Mitte after registering. In Tyrol, arl.park in St. Anton offers a marked pickleball court on an indoor tennis court. In Vorarlberg, the club Pickleball Vorarlberg organises play.

Three Things That Are Different Indoors

1. The Ball.

Indoor and outdoor balls are not the same. Indoor balls have fewer, larger holes and are lighter and softer. As a result, they travel more slowly, bounce more predictably and produce longer rallies. Outdoor balls are harder and more wind-resistant, but erratic on smooth indoor flooring. If you're moving indoors this autumn, switch your balls too. You'll find suitable indoor balls in our shop.

2. The Shoes.

Indoor floors require non-marking soles, and many venues insist on it. Running shoes are unsuitable anyway, because pickleball is built on lateral movement. That demands lateral support.

3. The game itself.

Indoors, wind disappears as a factor. The game becomes more technical, rallies get longer and net play matters more. Winter is the ideal time to work on control and dinks.

Find Players Now

Booking a court is easy. Finding three other people often isn't. That's exactly what our community platform is for. Find players near you, organise games and connect with the scene.

Conclusion

The indoor season isn't a fallback. For many, it's the real pickleball season: reliable conditions, predictable scheduling, consistent play. Set yourself up with a fixed weekly slot now and you'll come into spring noticeably stronger.

Note: prices and opening hours may change seasonally. Please check the respective venue's website before visiting.
